In the yard... Victoria Project
Follow the building of a real unmmaned sailboat, completly autonomous
for long distances, with his own computer an a lot of sensors (
actuators, barometer, wind-speed meter, GPS, altitude, acelerometers,
etc...) with the capabilities to travel, and set the course it self.

More information about Victoria ???!! ----------------------------------->
ROVERing...
The objetives of this project are: unmmanned navigation, autonomous
selection of the best path; get live telemetry information, real-time
OS based with high level of AI, large autonomy, creation of a
cooperation protocol between rovs; the project it's still under
development state. It has 5X5 spherical wheels and a huge surface of
contact on imperfect terrains.

The
Frame was designed using a FEM software, also working with a CAD-CAM,
the design it is based in geometric modules, and the base segment is
the one that defines all the project. So the entire rov should be 5
base segments together.
It's around 40 inches long; each segment allocates 2 engines per wheel,
20 engines total models 2162-60006 24V~3A getting more than 1/2 HP!! a
little monster.

This project it's on the mechanical design step, I always try to get
the easiest way to solve mechanical conflicts on the rov, thinking on
long distances travels. Some configurations needed to review are, the
transmission, the suspention components & desing, the consumption
of the engines used.

Next time I will be posting a gallery of this great project. Also the mechanical units used.
What is a UAV?
An unmanned aerial vehicle (UAV) is an unpiloted aircraft. UAVs can be remote controlled or fly autonomously based on pre-programmed flight plans or more complex dynamic automation systems. UAVs are currently used in a number of military roles, including reconnaissance and attack. They are also used in a small but growing number of civil applications such as firefighting when a human observer would be at risk, police observation of civil disturbances and crime scenes, and reconnaissance support in natural disasters. UAVs are often preferred for missions that are too "dull, dirty, or dangerous" for manned aircraft.
There is a wide variety of UAV shapes, sizes, configurations, and characteristics. For the purposes of this article and to distinguish UAVs from missiles, a UAV is defined as capable of controlled, sustained, level flight and powered by a jet or reciprocating engine. Cruise missiles are not classed as UAVs, because, like many other guided missiles, the vehicle itself is a weapon that is not reused, even though it is also unmanned and in some cases remotely guided. The abbreviation UAV has been expanded in some cases to UAVS (unmanned-aircraft vehicle system).
Arduino... more than an I/O Board
Arduino is a physical computing platform based on a simple I/O board and a development environment that implements the Processing/Wiring language. Arduino can be used to develop stand-alone interactive objects or can be connected to software running on a computer (e.g., Macromedia Flash, Processing, Max/MSP, Pure Data, SuperCollider). Currently shipping versions can be purchased pre-assembled; hardware design information is available for those who would like to assemble an Arduino by hand.
08/05/09 - The Arduino interpreter was installed for Ubuntu Linux :) special thanks to "running-arduino-on-ubuntu"
18/05/09 - Also here is the first prototype of the Single-Sided Arduino, It was hand mounted, also a 100mH it's not installed yet. I will be posting updates.
Unmanned Sailboats ¿ Near Future ?
Every time we talk about Unmanned robs, we think about new tech machines, hosting a lot of supercomputers and a tons of batteries, we want to make this future different, the sailboat was one of the first ways to explore the entire world. The engine of those ships was the wind, no more than that. The whole package makes faster, also cheaper way of transport, that the traditional ones. To see more, please visit "Victoria proyect.."
